Laptop backlash poses particular difficulties for people without offices, says Leah Meyerhoff, 29, a film director and free-lancer. She long has used coffee shops to interview cast and crew and to work on pre-production. Now, she says, “it’s a constant search for places with the Internet where I can sit and focus without being frowned upon.”

  • Uhhh, how about getting your OWN internet connection and setting up a HOME OFFICE??? The local business owners have bills to pay too, you know. It’s one thing to buy some coffee and check your email but you shouldn’t be using the shop as your own office. You went to NYU film school so I’m SURE you can afford to purchase internet service. I bet you’re using a Macbook pro too. Wah wah wah!

  • Hmm… That’s a lot of hostility from someone who doesn’t even know me. And actually, I have my own home office. I just prefer to meet cast and crew at coffeeshops rather than my apartment since it is more convenient and less creepy. Everyone always buys something too. Sorry if my life offends you though. Unless, of course, you are commenting from a Starbucks somewhere and being totally sarcastic, in which case never mind :)
