IMAGE-BODY#2
Human societies have always built their vision of the world on the basis of opposite binomials: day/night, good/evil, thought/body, reason/emotion, top/low, man/woman. These binomials were then associated in order to express a full meaning- ‘good’ corresponding to ‘day’ and ‘heights’; ‘darkness’ to evil; ‘man’ corresponding to ‘reason’, ‘woman’ to ‘body. “Image-Body#2″ will try to reflect on this last assumption.
“Image-Body#2″ is composed of 5 films in its great majority produced by women (except for one). This specific session tries to analyse: the definition of women in terms of catholic religion throughout the times (” Siempre “); the redefinition of the feminine identity by means of distorting the standard behaviour (”The State of Things”); the metaphor on the preservation of beauty (”Packaged Goods “); the irony used to highlight the definition of ‘femininity’ (”Gender Bender Hallo”), culminating in a work that incites to the reflection on the transvestites and their necessity of a body that allows them to reach the feminine identity (” Tropic of Capricorn”).
