Girl power is a vague description of the amount of creativity and energy found at the annual Rock‘n’RollCamp in the US – for girls only. Feminist rock-mamas like Carrie Brownstein help the girls play electric guitar and learn self-defense, and the music generates an atmosphere in which the girls are free to sweat, make noise and say no. Backed by a powerful soundtrack, the result is obvious: the break from being sexualised, compared and forced to adapt becomes a matter of self-realization – to the extent that it is not only moving but revolutionizing.
