A Sundance Lab finalist, UNICORNS tells the story of an awkward teenage girl who escapes to a fantasy world when her first romantic relationship turns increasingly abusive. Writer/Director Leah Meyerhoff is a Student Academy Award finalist and Slamdance Grand Jury Prize winning NYU grad. Her short films have screened in over 200 film festivals, won a dozen international awards, and are currently airing on IFC, LOGO and MTV. Executive produced by Allison Anders (Things Behind the Sun, Gas Food Lodging) and produced by Alexis Fish (Shortbus) and Heather Rae (2008 Sundance winner Frozen River) UNICORNS was recently accepted into IFP&#8217;s Emerging Narratives program.</p>

A diverse panel of judges is currently voting on all movies in competition and the best shorts will be presented in form of a count-down screening during an hour and a half long program in January. This year&#8217;s judges include: CBS&#8217; &#8220;Moonlight&#8221; actress Sophia Myles, moviegoer &#8220;audience&#8221; teams in New York and Switzerland, industry critic Izumi Hasegawa, and the &#8217;06 box[ur]shorts™ winner, writer-director Kerrie Scher.</p>
<p>Besides the Golden, Silver, and Bronze box[ur]shorts™ Awards, online voting is still ongoing and you can collect as many votes from the audience as possible. The short film with the most &#8220;thumbs up!&#8221; votes will be screened during the Awards Night and receive the prestigious box[ur]shorts™ Audience Choice Award.</p>
